THE OHIO THEATER: WHAT IS "THE LYNCHED AMONG US?"
The Lynched Among Us is a groundbreaking theatrical production that brings together six formerly incarcerated men, all wrongfully convicted, to reclaim their narratives and speak truth to a broken system.
Written with their own words and lived experiences, The Lynched Among Us is more than a play — it is a living testimony. These men step into the spotlight not just to perform, but to bear witness — exposing the pain, injustice, and long-term impact of being accused, tried, convicted, and imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.
From the trauma of incarceration to the battle for freedom and the complexity of reentry, the production shines a light on what happens when justice fails — and how resilience, community, and truth can become acts of resistance.
“Our stories were stolen in courtrooms. Now we’re taking them back — on stage.”
Through a blend of dramatic monologue, ensemble storytelling, multimedia visuals, and raw, unscripted emotion, The Lynched Among Us immerses audiences in the psychological and emotional toll of wrongful conviction. The production highlights not only the pain of losing years — or decades — to the system, but also the power of redemption, healing, and reclaiming identity after release.
Key Themes:
The psychological toll of wrongful incarceration
The difficulty of reintegration and rebuilding life after prison
The failures of the criminal justice system
The role of community, faith, and resilience in healing
The need for systemic reform and accountability
The production will take place at the Ohio Theater on September 5, 2025, and will be followed by a talkback with the exoneree cast and legal justice advocates. It is intended not just for theatergoers, but for policymakers, students, and communities grappling with the realities of mass incarceration and its aftermath.
